Idea #31 - why not create SuperCoolSchools in which students are co-owners in the new actual, as well as virtual, learning ventures?

Many states now permit formation of for-profit charter schools. Although to date these schools have been typically structured along standard business lines, their equity could be widened to vest students and their families with shares.

The extent of the student shareholdings, and the amount of annual dividend distributions, could be pegged to criteria such as the following:

* Gains in measurable skills during the previous year by the school’s students; and

* The success of each student’s chosen peer groups during the year in gaining skills, and/or in staying out of trouble. (Each student annually might make or renew a pact for this with four or five friends.)

Such an approach would help align the near-term, as well as long-term, interests of students and their families with learning success.

Participants in the new actual school ventures could also link up with virtual SuperCoolSchools. Online core courses offered by SuperCoolSchools could be enhanced by new elearning material from students at the actual schools.

Local students could who prepare well-rated eLearning materials could be rewarded with royalties from their affiliated SuperCoolSchool virtual learning networks.

As the range of (highly-rated) new learning resources grew, further audiences could also be reached by the interactive online learning system.

Foundations could also recognize exceptional eLearning content created by students. They could give prizes to eLesson creators who agree to make their learning resources freely available to the public - including those who remain caught in poorly-performing public schools, and who desire access to higher quality learning opportunities.

Microvoucher coupons could help public school students in poor neighborhoods afford after-school internet costs, if they lacked other ways to connect with the new free online learning resources.

How can a scenario of new for-profit schools, co-owned by students, become real?

One option is to create a competition to reward public students who prepare new market studies and business plans for new succcess-sharing actual and virtual learning ventures.

Outstanding proposals to launch inclusive for-profit schools -- schools that promote informal peer-learning and familiarity in joining creative teams to create virtual learning resources -- could rewards for their creators.

The best of the proposals could be the basis for private investors to launch new actual charter schools and/or virtual SuperCoolSchools, with a pre-set equity share for the initial designers as well as for families whose students enroll in these learning ventures. (Further thoughts on the strategy outlined here are at www.entrepreneurialschools.com and www.openworld.com.)

We're excited by the opportunities created by SuperCoolSchools, and look forward to helping move them into action.

These are the type of ideas we need to improve our systems and make things much better to the future.

Ultimate World of Warcraft

With most players on the World of Warcraft servers on the weekends, there are different kind of players playing on the weekend than Monday through Friday. Most casual players are the ones on during the weekends. These players are often not as serious about the gold-making process that you are. They are unaware of the pricing and economic schemes going on, and will add a superficial or unrepresentative spin to the Market during short spans. With this in mind, the buyer spike during the weekends floods the economy with cheap goods and cheap money. With Dugi's Ultimiate WoW Guide you'll gain a major advantage over other players in the game, check it out now!
